One of my new year's resolutions is to become hot. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I wish to be a hot chick. Who cares if I read loads and loads of books? Or that I love movies and can recite vast amounts of movie dialogues word for word? I'm working towards a Master's degree in Sociology? Pfft. So bloody what? All I want now is to become a certified hot chick. Mens sana in corpore sano and all that jazz.
So it is with that firm desire to become a certified hot chick that I accepted Migs' invitation to go wakeboarding at Lago de Oro. Last last weekend, I, along with Migs, Daniella and other friends headed off to Lago de Oro Batangas to check out this latest watersports activity. Apparently, wakeboarding is the new surfing. We left Manila at around 3 and I was still super duper groggy as I hadn't slept a single wink. We passed by Mike and Kaye, met up with the others at Tagaytay at around 6 and ate breakfast at Pancake House.
Anyway, when we got to Lago, the girls (there were five of us, and there were five boys) decided to take the morning off to get some rest while the boys headed out to wakeboard immediately.
One thing about wakeboarding: The girls who actually know how to wakeboard are soooo hot. Dan and I were like, "Crush ko yung girl na yon! Yung naka red na mahabang hair!" There's something totally appealing about girls excelling in kick-ass sports. The way they'd do sommersaults and stuff. "Don't worry Dan," I said. "Siguro in 2 or 3 years kaya na rin natin yan!" Haha.
Okay fine. I didn't actually wakeboard as in wakeboard. I just tried the kneeboard, which is this sissy beginner version of a wakeboard. Pero pucha, in fairness ha, mahirap din sya. Ang lakas ng hila ng cable so you gotta hold on for dear life. Or for your dear pride.
Nobody actually cares, but still. My heart was beating so fast when it was my turn. I just knelt down, gripped the handle and stared at the cable. I was just talking to myself. Any second now... any second now... basta Mia, no matter what happens, don't let go.... don't let gooooooo.... swhoosssshhhh!!!! goes the cable.
I think I may have been shrieking. I can't be sure although knowing myself I was probably screaming my lungs out. Poise be damned! "Wooohhhhhhhmigaaaaddddd!!!!!
I made it to the corner before landing smackdown on the waters. But man, what a russshhh!!!! I did it!!!!! I didn't fall right away!!!!! May I just say? I am officially astig mwahahaha!
That night, the boys produced the alcohol. Loads and loads of it. Plus chips and stuff. Guess who remained standing by the end of the night? The girls lang naman. The boys fell one by one to the snares of Red Horse, San Mig Light and Coors Beer. Hah!
Then the second day came.
When I woke up, my arms were hurting like hell and I had a huge hangover from the previous night's drinking. But still, I'm game! I'm like, man, I can do this! I did it yesterday, I sure as hell can do it today. Then I carried the kneeboard and I almost buckled down from the weight. Just do it, Mia! I told myself. Just go and get it over with.
I got over it in three seconds.
It took approximately three seconds before I fell headfirst onto the waters. As soon as the cable pulled me, I knew in my heart of hearts that a hot chick I am most definitely not. "Huwahhh---" splash!!!! I didn't even get the chance to shriek, for god's sake. I just yelped. Not shrieked, not screamed, just yelped. Ughhhh! So much for my fabulous first day. This being-astig business will be much harder than I thought!!! Oh well. After Lago, we heard mass at Tagaytay then had dinner at Bag of Beans before finally heading home. All in all, it was still the most fun weekend I've had in a long time.
