Dinner at Cuillere

A good friend of mine from college, Janine, flew in from New York last week! Yey Janine! She's going to be here for two months before she goes back to the States again. We took her to Serendra, as the last time she was here Serendra (and Boni High Street) weren't up yet. Man, the place was so packed! (And may I just say? Traffic was HORRENDOUS last week. As in,*&^%! horrendous. If you're from Manila, I'm sure you've been victimized by the traffic. Palibhasa Pasko!) We were supposed to have dinner at Conti's, but there were no more seats! Abe's was full, too, as always, as well as Mamou. Every other resto there had a wait list. Finally, we settled at this French resto called Cuillere (pronounced kwee-yer, according to their placemats. Cuillere is French for spoon. It's not a good strategy, sabi ni May, that you have to explain to people pa how to pronounce the name of your restaurant). Chad, Anne and Benj followed soon after.

Janine had salmon fillet, May had prawn thermidor atop black-ink risotto and I had herbed chicken with garlic mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were yummy! It's soft and creamy and it's just the right blend of garlic and mashed potatoes but it drowned in the gravy! Plus the chicken was just a quarter leg piece. For 295 bucks! Parang di sulit. Janine and May said theirs were just "okay." The place was pretty pricey. My chicken was the cheapest! The fillet and the prawn thermidor were at the 450+ plus range. Still, I kind of want to check out some of their other dishes. Next time I shall try their their lamb shoulder, lengua estofado (Anne said sarap daw!) which is their specialty, their french onion soup and their carabao milk shake. (May carabao ba sa France?! Nyi!) We sat outside so I didn't get to see the interiors of the place but it looks cozy enough from where I was sitting. Next time I'll ask for the complimentary bread too. We weren't served that, sayang naman. I'll also try out their vanilla and peach flavored iced tea.

L-R: Prawn Thermidor in black risotto, salmon fillet and herbed chicken in garlic mashed potatoes.

May's vodka tonic. Look! Their glass tips to the side. Ganyan talaga sya. How quirky!
